Masdevallia filaria

This Masdevallia is from the section Saltatrices, a group of Masdevallias with tubular flowers and a "belly" at the base of the flowers.  With their unusual coloration and shape these flowers have been compared to seahorses.  Whatever they look like the they bloom nearly year-around for me with a flush of new flowers late in the spring.  The plant is 10 cm and the flowers 5 cm.  The species is from Colombia.

    1. Thanks for the nice compliments, Elisabete. It is very easy to grow. I like it because the flowers look like little seahorses, or so it appears to me.

  3. Hey Ron,

Beautiful orchids! Really love your pictures. You have some interesting varieties I've never seen before.

I've been looking around online for other orchid enthusiasts and came to your site. I'm the website developer and apprentice for Wayne Keeth jewelry designs. We live on the Big Island of Hawaii where orchids grow very well. We make silver and gold castings of our orchids and sell them as one of a kind pieces of jewelry. Check out our website at WayneKeeth.com.

I know its rude to plug our site on your blog, but I've been scratching my head trying to figure out how to get people on the internet interested in what we do. So please forgive me for being so straight forward but please feel free to check out our website and feel free to contact us about anything. My attempt here is to connect with people who are truly interested in orchids too :). Thanks Ron.

    Aloha & Sincerely,
    Jesse
